  • Uchi, mmh, no thank you!

Here we go again, I will be the one who complain and criticize one of Austin’s so called gem!

For my wife’s birthday I had decided to invite her to Uchi knowing her passion for Japanese and good food. We arrived at the restaurant expecting a wonderful […]

    Austin Diner

fullscreen-capture-312010-21327-pmbmp A Great place! I love diners, they must be old fashioned, retro, in weird neighborhoods and the ultimate test is their hash-brown! Where I grew up hash-brown is a comfort food. My entire childhood we ate hash-brown with sausages and various cuts of meats at diner (back in Switzerland […]

    Snow Peas

fullscreen-capture-312010-15908-pmbmpWell, people will think again that I’m a cocky, arrogant European never satisfied with food and restaurants in America. Unfortunately the following review is not going to be positive that I confess but trust me, I’m an adamant American food fan in all its variety. I simply need […]

    Taqueria Arandas

fullscreen-capture-2192010-122702-pmbmpI craved mexican food for 2 weeks and Jessica finally gave in! So last night we decided to find an authentic, small, not fancy and “frequented by locals” mexican restaurant. As far as local we hit the spot, the restaurant is located not even 5 minutes from where we live. I believe that authentic is a term that fits with the place It’s not authentic in the sense that you feel in Mexico (or that the decoration comes from there like at the Fonda San Miguel, review to come) but in the sense that it’s not a franchise (I believe that there are 3 establishments under the same name though), not a corporate chain or a heavily marketed location.

    Blue Start cafeteria

    Blue Star Cafeteria

I’ll sound harsh once again but I have to. This cafeteria style restaurant serves great breakfasts in a funky, retro atmosphere. That was for our first visit on a Saturday morning.

Our second visit took place in the evening during the week. We ordered pretty standard plates such […]

    My new table extension

After a few months of procrastination I finally finished my walnut table extension. I bought our old Henry 9 walnut table from my aunt a few years ago, it was in a bad shape and I started restoring its top back in Switzerland. My first attempt was decent enough but after a trip across the […]

    Mikado

mikadoMikado is a Japanese restaurant in Austin, TX. The atmosphere is modern, sober and quiet. It is a pleasant address for a romantic diner.

We started with a great coktail made of “plum wine and sprite”, even though the sprite aspect […]
