Il y a maintenant environs 2 mois, j’ai décidé de construire les étagères qui supporteraient les innombrables livres de Jessica ainsi que les miens. Ceci n’a rien avoir avec de quelconques économies mais bien par passion des meubles en bois. J’ai toujours aimé travailler le bois que ce soit dans notre ferme de famille en Suisse afin de nous chauffer ou lors de restauration d’intérieur.

Le fait d’avoir de la place et plus important encore, d’avoir un domicile à meubler m’a fait me lancer dans l’aventure. J’ai commencer par chercher un fournisseur de bois qui part chance se trouve à 10 minutes de chet nous! Je fus ébahis par la sélection de bois et après maintes choisi le Noyer (Jessica pour sa couleur et moi pour sa noblesse).

Après 6 week-end passés dans un garage à 50°C à me battre contre la colle et les arraignées, Le résultat est maintenant dans notre salon. Pour plus de photos et détails visitez mon albums picasa

2 months ago I decided to build bookshelves in order to hold Jessica’s innumerable books as well as some of mine. We lived for the last 4 months between mountains of boxes full of novels, photo albums, historical novels and more. I’ve always loved wood and was lucky enough to be able to have my own workshop at our family farm back in Switzerland. I never built furniture but restored the house itself and spent months sanding, cutting and adjusting wood boards and other sticks.

Here in Austin we have enough space not only for me to have a workshop but also to have multiple librairie and actually unbox our books. I decided to search for wood and after a short time discovered that one of the major hardwood mill of central Texas was not 20 minutes away from our home! After debating on the grain structure and color, Jessica and I decided to buy walnut.

I spent roughly 15 days cutting, gluing, clamping and sanding the wood to create a simple yet original bookcase. The goal is to have 4 of them!!! If you want to see more pictures or more details about the construction visit my picasa album.
