Fred’s Texas cafe (Fort Worth)
Monday, 17 October 2011
Talk about a find! I’m addicted to “diners drive-ins and dives” and this past weekend, while in Fort Worth, I decided to find a good dinner for breakfast. I went to the DDD’s site and found Fred’s Texas cafe. Woaw, I finally discovered why people enjoy chicken fried steak. No kidding, up until this weekend I had had very bad cfs and frankly had almost given up. Note that the first time I ate CFS I was in NYC and complained to the waiter that I had ordered chicken, not steak (it was my first visit to the US mind you)…
Fred’s is almost like a food cart, it has this bohemian look to it, run down, chaotic but so welcoming. Inside I sat at the bar and ordered the first thing on the menu: Chicken fried steak. (Hey, looking at the logo I just noticed that it opened the year I was born…). Anyways, the staff was genuinely friendly, not fake, not over the top just cordial and friendly the way people should be. There were a lot of regulars, reading their Sunday papers, ordering beer, chips and salsa at 10am…
That’s that, I loved it, the gravy was amazing, the steak just melted in my mouth, the potatoes, well, they reminded me of my grand-ma’s, nuf said. Go say hi!
