A Great place! I love diners, they must be old fashioned, retro, in weird neighborhoods and the ultimate test is their hash-brown! Where I grew up hash-brown is a comfort food. My entire childhood we ate hash-brown with sausages and various cuts of meats at diner (back in Switzerland

I craved mexican food for 2 weeks and Jessica finally gave in! So last night we decided to find an authentic, small, not fancy and “frequented by locals” mexican restaurant. As far as local we hit the spot, the restaurant is located not even 5 minutes from where we live. I believe that authentic is a term that fits with the place It’s not authentic in the sense that you feel in Mexico (or that the decoration comes from there like at the Fonda San Miguel, review to come) but in the sense that it’s not a franchise (I believe that there are 3 establishments under the same name though), not a corporate chain or a heavily marketed location.

Mikado is a Japanese restaurant in Austin, TX. The atmosphere is modern, sober and quiet. It is a pleasant address for a romantic diner.

This restaurant is well located for sure; SOCO is a great relaxing area besides the high traffic which generates a constant rumbling noise. A lot of funky restaurants opened in this area and some of them provide quite decent food.

In my neighborhood you’ll find MacDonald’s, a Thai restaurant installed in an old workshop, an omelet specialized diner and many other interesting food places. Amongst them is Phil’s Ice House.
